Ory Okolloh Mwangi has been appointed an independent Non-Executive director at Stanbic Bank Kenya.
“The Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Ory A. Okolloh as an Independent Non-Executive Director on the boards of Stanbic Holdings Plc and Stanbic Bank Kenya Limited (the Bank). with effect from 3rd March 2020”, a statement published in the local dailies signed by company secretary Lilian Mbindyo read in part.
Ms. Okolloh is better know as a technology Guru and an activist. In 2005, she co-founded the government watchdog website Mzalendo (swahili for patriot). In 2007, she moved on to her next massive undertaking: helping found the open-source platform Ushahidi (Swahili: “testimony”), which enables groups to crowdsource data needed for accountability and social activism. She left Ushahidi in 2010.
She was the Google Policy Manager for Sub-Saharan Africa. She has acted in various capacities including a 2015 appointment to the Board of Thomson Reuters Founders Share Company, the body that acts as a guardian of the Thomson Reuters Trust Principles.
The statement from Stanbic mirrored her various achievements, it continued, “Ms. Okolloh is the Managing Director of Omidyar Network, which focusses on philanthropic impact. She possesses strong technological and legal exposure, with extensive board experience and the ability to create new partnerships with positive impacts.”
Her appointment are in line with the Bank’s digital transformation strategy.
Ms Ory Okolloh holds a Bachelor of Arts and Political Science degree from the University of Pittsburgh and a Juris Doctor (J. D.) from Harvard Law School.
