Sportpesa has landed in trouble just hours after resuming operations in the Kenyan Market.
This follows a new development that has once again seen the licence of the betting firm cancelled.
In a letter on our possession from the Betting Control and Licence Board (BCLB) the firm under a new parent company called Milestone Bet contravened the agreement on paper not to use the Sportpesa name or dormain.
“According to information from our possession the trademark name Sportpesa belongs to M/S Pevans East Africa Limited.” read the statement from BCLB.
the statement continues:
“In the light of the afore going the Board is of the opinion that Milestone Games Limited will create confusion to the generall public to which the trade name that the company wishes to adopt. “
The chair of the Board Cyrus Maina says that the confusion is what has led to the cancellation of the use of Sportpesa as trade name for Milestone Bet.
The Betting Control and Licensing Board has now suspended the license of Milestone Gaming Limited which had resumed operations as Sportpesa.
The Communications Authorty of Kenya (CAK) and Safaricom have been ordered to suspend the paybill numbers of the betting company
