Sanlam Insurance firm has once again been accused of running a fradulent insurance business.
Over the past few months, social media users have come up to accuse the firm’s general business department of cancelling their cover after an accident has occured.
“There is developing story about Sanlam, I made a personal accident claim with them after I got injured back in January. I submitted all the documents and reports. But every time I follow up, they lie that investigation is ongoing but when I pressed them a few days ago they are quick to refund my premium rather that compensating claim”, Sanlam client who wrote to us said.
This is not an isolated case. A few weeks ago, another client also compkained about a similar treatment on Twitter.
Such incidences are what stagnates the uptake of insurance products in Kenya.
According to the Association of Kenya Insurers, the uptake is at arounf 6.5 per cent, up from 5 per cent four years ago. Customers feel that poor customer service and ‘complicated nature of life insurance products’ have led to low penetration.
