Samsung Electronics Co. introduced the Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra and Galaxy Tab S12+ in Kenya, positioning them as successors to the Galaxy Tab S11 series.
The tablets become available for purchase on October 7 and are offered in gray and silver finishes.
The Ultra model measures 5.1 mm in thickness, making it Samsung’s slimmest tablet, while the Plus model features slimmer bezels than its predecessor.
Pricing in Kenya starts at KSh203,200 for the Ultra with 12 GB RAM and 256 GB storage and KSh230,300 for the 12 GB/512 GB variant; the Plus is priced at KSh176,000 for 12 GB/256 GB and KSh203,200 for 12 GB/512 GB.
The Ultra sports a 14.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display and the Plus a 12.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel, both delivering up to 1,600 nits of peak brightness and featuring a Vision Booster that adjusts tone mapping to ambient light.
Samsung says the tablets are powered by an unspecified 3 nm processor that provides a 61 per cent faster neural processing unit, 19 per cent faster CPU performance and a 17 per cent improvement in GPU capability compared with the Tab S11 Ultra.
A newly engineered 3D vapor chamber is used for thermal dissipation during intensive tasks such as multi-stream 4K editing or extended gaming.
Battery capacity is rated for up to 23 hours on the Ultra and up to 21 hours on the Plus, with 45 W fast charging that fills the battery from zero to 100 per cent in about 95 minutes.
Audio is handled by an upgraded four-channel spatial system, which Samsung claims doubles the channel count of the previous generation.
Both devices run Android 17-based One UI 9, come with an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance, and are promised up to seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security patches.
Multitasking features include a three-way Multi Window view and Note Assist tools that summarise notes in Samsung Notes.
The Samsung Browser can parse open tabs and historical browsing context to deliver contextual summaries.
Each tablet ships with a bundled S Pen and offers optional accessories such as a Pro Keyboard with an aluminium finish and a dedicated AI key, and a Book Cover Keyboard Slim.
Samsung bundles software perks valued at around $600 (approximately KSh77,500), including pre-installed Adobe Photoshop with Firefly generative AI tools, a four-month trial of the Photoshop mobile plan, six-month trials of Notability and Google AI Pro (Gemini and Gemini Notebook), one-year free access to Goodnotes, a 66 per cent discount on LumaFusion, six months of Clip Studio Paint and one month of Notion Plus.
“The Galaxy Tab S12 series is designed for people who are constantly exploring new ideas, developing new skills and bringing their ambitions to life,” said Jay Kim, executive vice president and head of the Customer Experience Office in Samsung’s Mobile eXperience business.
Samsung Care+ coverage is also available for accidental damage and extended warranty.
