Mr Peter Ndegwa has reported to work at Kenya’s biggest Telco Safaricom Plc today.
The former Managing Director of Diageo Continental Europe technically takes over from late Safaricom Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Bob Collymore who died abruptly of cancer in July 2019.
Mr Michael Joseph, the first CEO of the telco held the position of Interim CEO for the time being snce Mr Collymore’s demise.
The firm’s net profit for the year ended March 2019 grew by 14.7 percent to Sh63.4 billion on strong M-Pesa and mobile data performance, marking the seventh straight year of increasing bottom-line.
Mr Ndegwa is taking over at a toigh time when the Covid-19 virus is wreckign havoc in the world’s economy. However, he is upbeat about everything.
Speaking to the Nation Media Group, Mr Ndegwa said that integrity and humility are what he values most and that “the best strategy is about solving the problems of our customers”.
“Safaricom is more than just a telecommunications company. Voice is saturated but that what is happening everywhere in the world. Best companies renew themselves…I like getting things done. The best strategy is about solving the problems of our customers and this is part of my DNA. I also like things simple”, he said

Mr Ndegwa is an account, an alumnus of Starehe Boys Centre, he holds a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from the London Business School and a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Nairobi. He joined Diageo in 2004 as the strategy director for East African Breweries Limited (EABL). Before joining EABL, Ndegwa worked at PwC where he was the sales director between 2006 and 2008.
He joins Safaricom from Diageo where he was the Managing Dorector for Continental Europe and Russia.
