The SME Awards 2019 comes one year after the success of the inaugural Young Entrepreneurs Awards (YEA Awards).

The Awards are organised by Bizna Kenya and aim at recognising and celebrating small and medium-sized enterprises based on their performance, profitability, quality of products and customer relations.

Speaking during the event Bizna boss Tonnie Mello who is also the founder of the awards lauded winners and urged SMEs to ensue their businesses were dully registered.

“Some of the contestants were dropped since we they not able to prove to the judges that their businesses were compliant with requirements of the law,” stated Mello.

Speaking at the same event, president elect of the Kenya Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) Richard Ngatia, observed that SMEs were an integral point in the growth of the economy.

Ngatia, however, noted negative profiles of some SMEs on CRB had dealt them a blow and most of them could not access credit to broaden their businesses.

“We are currently trying to find ways that will help SMEs blacklisted on CRB to access credit through KNCCI. SMEs are key to creating job opportunities for the youth and it is important that all sectors join forces and see them grow,” he said.
