Local retailer, Naivas supermarket has officially set up shop the Waterfront Mall in Karen, Nairobi.
The move sees Naivas replace South Africa’s supermarket chain Shoprite and open up its 66th store and will occupy 3500 square meters at the mall’s ground floor space. The branch will serve the upmarket residential area of Karen and surrounding neighborhoods.
This is the first time Naivas is making an entry into the larger Karen area saying that the entry of the store will create 120 jobs directly and twice the number to third-party partners.
“The opening of the new Naivas branch at Waterfront mall is an important step towards realizing the retailer’s mission to serve Kenyans at every possible opportunity,” said Willy Kimani, Chief Commercial Officer, Naivas.
Waterfront Karen Director, David Muguku lauded the new development saying that it is in line with the mall’s strategic objective to enhance variety for shoppers.
While the South African supermarket chain Shoprite announced plans to shut down its loss-making Kenyan business by December 2020, Naivas, even with massive drawbacks from the Covid-19 pandemic, has emerged as one of the faces of resilience as the retailer continuously expands
In 2020, Naivas has opened new outlets in Kilimani, Mountain View, Kamakis, Syokimau and Kisumu.
