Safaricom has updated My OneApp for iPhone users, with version 5.2.0 now available through the App Store. The release adds four functions focused on payments, accessibility and roaming.

The changes give customers more options for handling routine services without leaving the application.

The main addition is Lipa na Bonga, which allows customers to redeem accumulated Bonga points when paying for products and services.

Bonga points have operated as a loyalty reward for Safaricom customers for years. Their integration into My OneApp gives users a more direct way to spend those accumulated rewards.

Previously, customers could access Bonga services through other channels, depending on the transaction.

Bringing redemption into the application places the points within the same digital environment used for other account activities. That gives users a simpler route from accumulating rewards to actually using them.

The update also introduces Dynamic Fonts, which adjust the application’s text display according to an iPhone’s accessibility and font settings. The change is small, but it addresses a practical issue for users who rely on larger text.

Customers can therefore use their existing device preferences without the application displaying text independently.

Roaming management has also moved further into self service. Customers travelling abroad can now activate or deactivate roaming directly through My OneApp.

This gives travellers another way to manage their mobile service without contacting customer care for routine changes. It also puts roaming controls closer to the other account functions available within the application.

The update adds an East Africa roaming bundle for customers using their Kenyan lines across the region. A single regional bundle can reduce the need to manage separate roaming rates or arrangements in different countries.

For people travelling regularly for business or other reasons, that creates a simpler way to manage connectivity while abroad.

The roaming changes are particularly relevant to customers whose travel crosses several East African markets.

Managing connectivity before or during a trip can become more complicated when services differ between destinations. Moving the controls and bundle into My OneApp gives customers one place to handle those tasks.

Taken together, the four additions expand My OneApp beyond payments and basic account management. Bonga redemption, accessibility controls and roaming services now sit closer together within one application.

The update therefore reflects a broader shift towards making more customer services available through a single digital channel.

The iPhone update is available through the App Store, while Safaricom has not specified when the same features will reach Android users.

For now, version 5.2.0 gives iPhone customers access to the four new functions. The additions also strengthen the application’s role as a central point for managing everyday Safaricom services.
