MultiChoice Kenya announced it will unveil a “New Era for DStv” on Monday October 26, 2026.
The company has not disclosed the composition of the new era, but the announcement follows a teaser campaign launched on October 6 under the slogan DStv Expect More that promised a brand-new suite of packages for movie fans, sports fans and large families, without naming prices or launch dates.
MultiChoice told subscribers that the refreshed packages will be rolled out in phases during November, making the October 26 event a preview of the forthcoming pricing.
Kenya currently receives six DStv packages, with Lite priced at KSh750 per month, Compact Plus at KSh7,300, and Premium at KSh11,700, each adding more channels than the tier below.
The Communications Authority recorded 259,047 active DStv satellite subscriptions in Kenya at the end of June 2026, an increase of 10,994 from March after a loss of 22,450 subscriptions in the first quarter.
MultiChoice shut its standalone streaming service Showmax on April 30, and offered former Kenyan users DStv Stream Compact at KSh550 per month for a year before the price reverts to KSh4,200.
Canal+ acquired MultiChoice Group late last year and has been reducing the number of DStv packages across Africa; South Africa moved to five packages on September 17, 2026 and Nigeria introduced five packages on October 15, 2026.
Canal+ Africa chief executive David Mignot said MultiChoice had too many price points and packages, prompting the restructuring.
Sources speaking to TechArena said MultiChoice plans to lower subscription rates across all its Kenyan packages, marking the first price reduction in the market, though they did not provide the exact figures.
TechArena reported that Kenyan DStv premium rates were approximately $91, compared with $29 in Nigeria and $54 in South Africa, showing Kenyan customers have been paying the highest prices on the continent.
