Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) will conduct another test run of Green Park terminus ahead of its re-opening.
The test run will be in five phases and will commence on Wednesday morning.
NMS director for Transport Michael Ochieng said all matatus stationed at Railways stage would take part in the test.
“We will start operations at Green Park this month in two phases, but on trial basis ahead of the commissioning. All vehicles operating at the railway terminus will take part from 5: 00am,” he said.
Initially, Green Park was to be commissioned on May 24, but this was postponed. The NMS, led by lieutenant general Mohamed Badi, said the postponement follows a request by public service vehicle operators.
All matatus plying Ngong and Argwings Kodhek roads are set to end their journeys at the terminus starting May 24.
In March, the NMS had said that it planned to relocate all matatus from the city centre this month, starting with those designated to move to Green Park.
The terminus, located at the former Lunar Park, can accommodate 300-350 vehicles, processing about 1,000 PSVs per hour and 20,000 per day. The NMS had also announced that only three matatus per sacco would be allowed to access the terminal at any given time.
The reopening has stalled despite President Uhuru Kenyatta inspecting it thrice last year. Others include Desai, Park Road, Landhies Muthurwa, Fig Tree and Bunyala-Workshop Road termini.
