Kenya Volleyball team Malkia Strikers began their pre-games training yesterday at Kurume City, Japan.
The national ladies’ volleyball team beat Nigerians in three sets 25-15, 25-21 and 25-12 making it to the tournament.
Malkia Strikers consist of 12 members who were selected from a pool of 20.
Making the team out of the 20 players are middle blockers Edith Mukuvilani, Violet Makuto, Gladys Ekaru, Lorine Chebet, the Liberos are Elizabeth Wanyama, Agripina Kundu while the setters will comprise of sensational Jane Wacu, Joy Lusenaka and Emmaculate Nekesa.
Left attackers will be Mercy Moim, Noel Murambi, Leonida Kasaya, Pamela Jepkirui while opposite players will be Sharon Chepchumba, Emmaculate Chemtai and Pamela Adhiambo.
Winners
In January 2021, the team beat Cameroon 3-1 to retain the women’s volleyball title and take gold in a hotly contested final match at the Salle Bouaazaoui Arena.
The national volleyball team is returning the Olympics after a 16-year hiatus. Kenya last participated at the Games in 2004 in Athens, Greece.
The team has settled in at the New Plaza Hotel.
