M-KOPA marks its 15th anniversary, having been founded in 2011, and says it now serves 10 million customers across Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana, Uganda and South Africa.

The fintech reported record revenue of US$600 million for the 2025 financial year, representing a 45 per cent increase on 2024.

Of the total customer base, 3 million joined during the most recent 12-month period, showing continued demand in its markets.

The company added roughly 200 full-time employees, a rise of 9 per cent in headcount, and more than 5,000 new sales agents joined its distribution network.

Chief Financial Officer Faraimose Kutadzaushe said “2025 was a record year for M-KOPA, with customer and revenue growth reaching new highs”. He added “We maintained profitability while reinvesting as much as possible in our products, technology and distribution to scale our reach across Africa’s massive, underserved market of everyday earners. We are still very early in our growth trajectory.”

M-KOPA now employs over 2,500 full-time staff and has created income-generation opportunities for nearly 50,000 sales agents.

The firm onboards about 10,000 new customers each day and processes micropayments at a speed of 23 transactions per second.

Most customers use more than one M-KOPA product over a multi-year relationship, including smartphones, digital loans and electric-mobility solutions.

Originally a provider of financed solar systems, the company expanded into smartphone financing in 2020 and has recorded a five-year compound annual growth rate of 50 per cent.

It has been listed among the largest and longest-standing firms on the Financial Times’ annual ranking of Africa’s fastest-growing companies.

M-KOPA recently launched electric-vehicle financing and now reports more than 10,000 electric motorcycles and three-wheelers financed and operating in Kenya.

Investment in affordable, high-quality smartphones has increased through technology acquisitions and the opening of Africa’s largest smartphone-assembly factory in Kenya.

The latest X4 series smartphones were introduced this month.
