The auction follows a member vote to dissolve KUSCCO in August 2026 after attempts to revive its finances failed, prompting the Commissioner for Co-operative Development to cancel its registration and appoint a three-member liquidation team.

A forensic audit commissioned by the government found liabilities of approximately KSh17 billion against assets of about KSh5.4 billion, attributing the shortfall to alleged mismanagement and irregularities that threatened affiliated SACCOs.

Commissioner for Co-operative Development David Obonyo stated that the institution could no longer meet its obligations, and the liquidation process aims to realise the remaining assets, settle verified claims in legal order and distribute any proceeds.
