Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Customs Officers based at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) have intercepted Kshs102 Million in foreign currency from six female travellers.
The suspects had arrived in the country from India. The currency was concealed in their luggage containing personal items and was discovered during a routine scanning process by the Customs officers at the airport.
Upon further verification, the officers discovered undeclared currency concealed in their luggage as follows: USD 260,000, USD 170,000, USD 148,300, USD 100,000 USD 99,000 and USD 80,000.
KRA encourages passengers to correctly declare all cargo/items at the Ports of entry and exit as required under the provisions of the Second and Third Schedules of the EAC Customs Management Act, 2004.
