On Monday, November 2, the Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) intercepted an illegal attempt to siphon petroleum products from the pipeline that joins Pumping Station 14 with Pumping Station 15 in Mombasa County.
Security and pipeline maintenance crews spotted the unauthorised link during routine surveillance, secured the area and reported the incident to Chaani Police Station, where specialist police teams have opened an investigation.
KPC General Manager for Human Resource and Administration Dinah Kirwa said the officers had successfully prevented a criminal act that is now under police inquiry.
Kirwa added that the illicit connection caused no loss of product because monitoring teams quickly identified and contained the breach.
The company said its 1,342-kilometre pipeline network is protected by real-time monitoring, advanced security intelligence, leak detection and other safety technologies, investments intended to reduce operational, environmental and reputational risks.
