Bidders will need to attend a Mandatory Pre-Bid Conference via Zoom on August 18, 2022 starting at 10 AM EAT. Pre-registration for this meeting can be done via this link. Following the meeting, there shall also be a Mandatory site visit on September 15, 2022 at 10 AM EAT at Geothermal Plaza – Olkaria.
According to KenGen, the results of the feasibility study will be used to determine the size of the proposed manufacturing plant and its timeline of construction. KenGen holds a strategic advantage in executing this plan since they will be relying on the power that they produce in the Olkaria facility. The geothermal brine from power production can also be a source of high-value products such as borate fertilizers.
This initiative by KenGen comes at a time when fertilizer prices have gone through a 71% increase in prices from the previous year. This surge in fertilizer prices is a global phenomenon that started during the COVID-19 pandemic and was compounded by the current situation in Ukraine.
This is also an opportunity for KenGen to further diversify their revenues.
