Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) has partnered with the Eldoret Golf club in planting 5,000 indigenous trees at the golf club’s grounds. The company (KenGen) is a key player in the implementation of the Kenya Energy Sector Environment Program (KEEP) project, which is steered by the Ministry of Energy and its parastatals.
Environmental conservation and protection is a key component of KenGen’s Corporate Business Sustainability where the company remains committed to the environmental conservation and protection of the ecosystems.
“Our environment conservation projects support the achievement of the Government of Kenya (GoK) target of attaining of the 10% forest cover by 2022 and conservation of water catchment areas with a view of sustaining hydropower generation,” said KenGen’s Managing Director Rebecca Miano.
“Three other projects have been initiated and are at different stages. These are; 100HA of catchment rehabilitation in Aberdare Ranges, restoration of 20km of riparian land along Mathioya river, restoration of 107HA at Londiani Forest, Mau Forest,” she added.
Last week, Ms Miano joined other Chief Executive Officers at the Africa Business Leaders Coalition regional roundtable in Nairobi.
“It was a pleasure to join fellow leaders at the African Business Leaders Coalition under the auspices of the UN Global Compact. My team and I are committed to accelerating climate action and a just transition with emphasis on #SDG7”, She wrote on Twitter.
