Jubilee Group and FSD Africa have announced a partnership with seven insurtech firms to develop and trial low-cost insurance solutions for underserved Kenyans, with pilot projects slated to begin in November 2026.

The selected companies – Dukatech Solutions, Aura Insure Technologies, Inclusivity Solutions, DPE, Fiinovate, Agrails and Ibisa Network – will first engage in an eight-week product co-creation phase together with Jubilee before the pilots commence.

The initiative will target small and medium-sized enterprises, informal workers, farmers and low-income households, focusing on bundled and embedded insurance distribution, SME-centric products and wellness models that connect customers to health services.

East Africa is estimated to host more than 10 million SMEs, which provide over 70 per cent of regional employment, yet insurance penetration among these businesses averages roughly one per cent, leaving many vulnerable to shocks such as illness or extreme weather.

Juan Cazcarra, deputy group CEO of Jubilee, said the collaboration offers a practical way to test various products and distribution approaches and highlighted the need for affordable, relevant and easy-to-access insurance for a large segment of the population.

Elias Omondi, principal for sustainable insurance at FSD Africa, noted that expanding coverage requires not only new products but also affordable pricing and delivery through channels already used by customers, and described Kenya as a strong market for testing inclusive insurance models.

The work will be coordinated through J-Hub, Jubilee’s innovation and technology unit, which develops digital and AI-driven solutions across the group, and successful models may later be rolled out to other East African markets.
