Staff of the struggling Supermarket chain Tuskys, particularly cashiers are faced with danger over handling of cash.
Tuskys has not paid salaries to their employees for months and some have taken it upon themselves to rob the cashiers in bad daylight.
An incident on Saturday 7pm where a staffer brandished a knife and walked away with over Sh300,000 from a Tuskys branch might signifiy an increase in the habit.
Nairobi police boss Augustine Nthumbi said no arrest had been made as the CCTV of the Karasha branch in Nairobi’s Kenyatta Avenue had been tampered with.
The incident was not captured by surveillance cameras.
The staff stole Sh320,000 at knife point
In November 2020, a Tuskys cashier stole money from the till in order ‘to reduce my unpaid salary and paid myself ninety thousand shillings”, a resignation letter stated
“I have just decided to reduce my unpaid salary and paid myself ninety thousand shillings. In case anyone has an issue, kindly deduct this from my salary,” said one of the cashiers in her resignation letter.
The above was done by senior and junior staffers at various branches. The affected banches were t Greenspan, Kenyatta Avenue, Matasia, T-Mall, Imara, Ongata Rongai and Eldoret.
Some staff didn’t steal cash but inventories. Some of the aforementioned branches have since been shut down due to lack of money to run them.
Police are still investigating the daring robbery incidents, as cashier’s lives continue to be in danger.
The supermarket is facing financial challenges and runs five branches from 64 in 12 months.
