On October 7 HACO Industries announced a partnership with Ghanaian firm Ayewa Aberfur to produce and distribute its Amara lotion within Ghana.
The arrangement will enable the Kenyan consumer-goods maker to manufacture the skincare product locally as it seeks to grow its presence in West Africa, with Ghana selected after research identified favourable economic and business conditions and a strategic regional position.
HACO will contribute technical know-how, product specifications and manufacturing systems, while Ayewa Aberfur will bring product development expertise, manufacturing experience and insight into the Ghanaian market.
Oversight of core formulations, quality benchmarks and technical procedures will remain with HACO, which will also support the local production of the lotion.
The collaboration has already included product testing, stability assessments, technical training and operational reviews, and the partners will carry out regular audits and share quality-control responsibilities.
Managing Director Mary-Ann Musangi said the partnership will help link manufacturing capacity with markets across Africa, adding: “Our partnership with Ayewa Aberfur brings together technical expertise and local knowledge to establish a strong foundation for manufacturing Amara in Ghana, while creating opportunities to strengthen the African value chains that support our brands.”
HACO manufactures about 90 items across haircare, skincare, homecare and plastics, reaches more than three million families throughout Africa and sources raw materials from over 500 farmers on the continent.
The Ghana venture supports the company’s wider aim of producing nearer to consumers and bolstering regional supply chains, and is expected to advance African Continental Free Trade Area objectives by increasing intra-African trade and regional manufacturing.
HACO plans to operate in 30 African countries by 2030 and to set up five manufacturing hubs across the continent, with the Ghana partnership forming a key element of that expansion strategy.
