Yesterday, Transnational Bank Limited announced to its clients that services have been restored after being in the dark for days.
“Dear Customer, we are pleased to inform you that the service downtime experienced on our online banking platforms has been restored. We regret the inconveniences caused. We thank you.”, they wrote on their social media platforms.
However, replies beneath the above message on Twitter shows that the system downtime at the bank is far from over. The hackers are still running riot.
We have had two articles report about hackers stealing over 2 terabytes of data from the bank and asking for ransom.
Kenyanbusinessfeed.com has also exposed the audit of ‘information and communication technology controls of Transnational Bank’ conducted by Ernst & Young LLP which revealed serious system weakness.
The editor of this site can now confirm that the hackers made away with the entire list of email addresses and passwords of the staff in excel format.
Transnational Bank is struggling to ward off this attack and the explanation that they ‘are working on it’ is not true. It is a gimmick.
The bank’s acquisition by Nigeria top lender Access Bank was completed at the beginning of February 2020. The institution is now under Access Bank.
Whether this is work of sabotage or a true hacking experience, will be known in the near future.
How it all started
Part 4, later today, will reveal an incident where thieves stole from the banks ATM in Eldoret and Burn Forest branches that the media never reported.
