Thousands of learners in Kenya will benefit from a campaign supported by Faulu Microfinance Bank to sensitize the public on the need to continue observing health measures aimed at preventing the spread of Covid-19.
The Bank has announced plans to partner with at least twenty counties to provide over 150,000 masks to 150 primary schools across the country in a bid to boost Covid-19 awareness and prevention among school going children and the general public.
The move comes soon after schools opened on January 4 following a prolonged shutdown due to the pandemic that severely disrupted learning as the country battled the virus.
The initiative by Faulu targets Kajiado, Bungoma, Nyeri, Nakuru, Homabay, Mombasa and Nairobi counties among others.
Faulu Microfinance Bank Managing Director and CEO Apollo Njoroge says the sensitization campaign is aimed at supporting learning in a safe environment considering the continued threat posed by the virus.
“Working closely with the counties, this campaign is part of our ongoing initiatives as a bank to support efforts to contain the further spread of Covid-19. We are also keen on promoting a safe learning environment for our children,” said Mr. Njoroge.

Speaking while launching the campaign in Kajiado County, Mr. Njoroge added that the devastating impact of the pandemic is still being felt hence the need for concerted action at individual level to prevent the further spread of the virus. The bank targets to distribute over 10,000 masks in the county.
“As a bank that serves millions of Kenyans, we have experienced the impact of the pandemic through our clients and as a business. Hence our continued commitment to doing everything we can to enhance community efforts to minimize the further spread of the disease for businesses and the economy to recover.” He continued
Kajiado County Deputy Governor Moshisho Martine hailed the gesture by Faulu Bank saying it will greatly boost efforts to curb infections even as schooling gradually resumes across the country.
“With limited resources, schools face a unique challenge in ensuring that learners adhere to health protocols despite close physical interaction. We thank Faulu for providing thousands of our young learners with face masks as this will help ensure a safe learning environment for our children,” said Mr. Martine.
As part of the sensitization campaign, Faulu will also collaborate with the counties to conduct roadshows targeting the general public and distribute posters and fliers from the Ministry of Health with information on Covid-19. The Bank will also work with the counties to promote awareness among business owners and youth.
Although the rate of Covid-19 infection in the country has declined in recent weeks, experts caution the virus remains a significant public health threat hence the need to continue observing preventive measures like face masking, hand hygiene and physical distancing.
