Flight data from Flighstats, a global flight status and tracker service indicated the China Southern Airlines which announced that it had suspended its flights to and from Kenya never really did that.
In early February, public outcry from Kenyans forced the airline to follow suit from Kenya Airways and Cancel its flights to Kenya.
On 10th February 2020, the airline decided to suspend its flights to Kenya. The airline initially operated four weekly direct flights to Kenya between Nairobi-Changsha, and Nairobi-Guangzou since June last year.
However, data from flightstats spoke of a different scenario.
The Kenya Ministry of Health (MoH) and the Chinese Embassy were lying to state that the airline has resumed flights to Kenya yesterday.
“This lie was meant to cover up the filming of a China Southern Airline, which was supposed to be suspended landing at JKIA yesterday,” a person privy to the matter stated.
War on Coronavirus
KenyanBusinessFeed.com finds it reckless for a government whose preparation for coronavirus outbreak is only a 100 bed isolation ward at Mbagathi Hospital.
Last week there were reports that the government is seeking Sh1.8 billion to build a hospital exclusively to tackle the virus.
It is even more reckless that the government doesn’t have any other measures such as closing the border with China but instead asks travelers from China to self – quarantine for two weeks.
The death toll from coronavirus is over 2,700 worldwide, with the vast majority in mainland China. Thousands more are infected, a few have been healed. Countries that have reported the first cases of the virus are Brazil, Pakistan, North Macedonia, Greece, Georgia and Algeria.
WHO has already declared a global emergency over the virus.
