Kenya Pipeline Company (KC) has a new Managing Director.
The Cabinet Secretary for Petroleum John Munyes has appointed Dr. Macharia Irungu as the new MD.
Below is the statement from the Ministry.
In my capacity as Cabinet Secretary for Petroleum and Mining. I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Machado Irungu as Managing Director, Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) Limited.
This decision follows a rigorous recruitment process conducted by the KPC Board of Directors, and which was observed throughout by officials from the Public Service Commission. The Board received 88 applications for the position, and interviewed a final shortlist of 9. The names of the 3 candidates who scored highest were thereafter forwarded to me for the final decision on who should be appointed the Managing Director.
Dr. Irungu, who scored highest during the final Board interviews, brings over twenty eight (28) years’ experience in the oil & gas industry, with eleven (11) of years spent at the highest levels of management. He currently serves as Managing Director of Gulf Africa Petroleum Corporation (GAPCO), a member of the Total Group. Dr. Irungu is also Strategy Director of Total Kenya Limited. He will resign from both positions to take up his new role as KPC Managing Director. I am confident his experience will prove invaluable in steering KPC to the next phases of its growth. I wish him all the best in this endeavor.
I wish to commend the Board for the professional manner that it conducted this recruitment process. I urge the KPC Board and KPC Management to provide Dr. Irungu with all the support he requires to make KPC a Company of which all Kenyans will be proud of.
Finally, I would like to thank Mr. Hudson Andambi, who has been Acting Managing Director of KPC since December 2018, for his services. Mr. Andambi proved himself a capable steward of KPC’s affairs during a period of cinsiderable turmoil, and has helped lay the foundation for KPC’s future success.
Hon. John Munyes Kiyong’a, EGH
