Days after it’s Boss was arrested following allegations of receiving a bribe of Ksh. 200,000 the parastatal has appointed a new Director General.
In a statement the board of the regulator expressed their dissatisfaction with the state of affairs at the helm of EPRA and appointed a new Director.
The statement from the regulator read: The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA),which is a State Corporation entrusted with the regulation of the Energy and Pet roleu m sector, has lately been in the news in relation to the publicity revolving around the ethical issues of its Director General, Mr. Robert Pavel Oimeke.
On Thursday 10 December 2020, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, arrested Mr. Ouneke on allegations of bribery. He was held in custody and la ter released on police bond, as the Anti-Corruption agency concludes its investigation.
The EPRA Board, upon raking into account the official communication from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, as well as the pertinent facts, has today taken the decision, fustly, to interdict Mr. Oimeke as Director General and, on the recommendation of the Cabinet Secretary for Energy Mr.Charles Keter, to appoint an Acting Director General, Mr. Daniel Kiptoo Bargoria whose appointment takes effect immediately.
Prior to his appointment Mr. Kiptoo was Legal Advisor to the Ministry of Energy and State Department of Petroleum, and is the Chairman of the Government’s First Oil Committee. Mr. kiptoo has vast experience in the Energy and Petroleum Sectors,with a bias in Policy Formulation.
Regulation and Project and Structured Finance. He was instrumental in the draft ing of the Energy Act (2019) and the Petroleum Act (2019).Mr. Kiptoo holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Nairobi nnd a Masters Degree in Petroleum Law and Policy from the University of Dundee, in Scotland.
