GIRE Ali, the Kenya airways staff that shared a video of 239 passengers aboard a China Southern Airlines flight arriving in Kenya has been suspended indefinitely.
“Following a report of video of China Southern flights arrival at JKIA and circulation of the video clip widely on social media and your alleged involvement in the matter, it has been decided that you be suspended from duty with effect from Feb 27,” Chief human resource Evelyne Munyoki said.
In the letter addressed to staffer Gire Ali, Munyoki said the suspension is in line with the company policies.
“This is to pave way for further investigations into the matter. During the period of suspension, you will be required to avail yourself to the investigating team,” Munyoki said.
During the period of suspension, Gire Ali is required to avail himself to the investigating team.
On 10th February 2020, China Southern Airlines had announced that it will stop flying to Kenya in measures to curb spread of coronavirus. But shockily as our investigations revealed, the flights never ceased and the exposé through a video shared a few days ago was just confirming that.
Evidence Shows China Southern Airlines Never Suspended Flights
Both the Kenyan Ministry of Health (MoH) and Chinese Embassy lied that the flights had resumed that day.
As per yesterday’s press conference by the Chief Administrative Assistant (CAS) in the MoH Rashid Aman, Kenya has no plans to suspend flights from Coronavirus-laden China.
“I think that is a discriminatory approach (to stop flights from China) given how the virus is spreading in many different countries. It doesn’t mean that if somebody is coming from China then he or she has the virus,” he said while responding to questions fielded by reporters.
