Co-operative Bank of Kenya is offering free online training to help young people turn existing skills into income. The session targets students, young entrepreneurs and job seekers exploring alternative earnings amid a challenging transition into formal employment.
Scheduled for Friday, October 2, 2026, the training will take place through the bank’s Ignite Youth Forum. It will examine practical approaches to freelancing, tutoring and campus based businesses as potential sources of income.
The programme, titled “Turning A Skill Into Income: Freelancing, Tutoring And Campus Based Hustles,” will focus on monetising existing abilities. Participants will learn how educational knowledge, personal interests and practical experience can support income generating activities.
The session is scheduled to begin at 11:00 AM and will be accessible through Zoom. Participants can also follow the discussion through the bank’s YouTube, X and Facebook channels. The online format removes the need for physical attendance and allows interested young people to participate remotely.
Violetta Ngina will host the session, with Peter Ndumia serving as the expert speaker. Ndumia is the Branch Manager at Ridgeways Mall. His participation will support discussions on practical approaches to developing skills into potential income streams.
The initiative addresses a challenge for many young Kenyans seeking work after completing their studies. Formal employment remains a desired route, but some young people also explore self employment and small business opportunities. Developing alternative income sources can offer greater flexibility while job seekers pursue longer term career opportunities.
Freelancing allows people to offer specialised services to clients who need particular skills. Depending on their abilities, young people can explore writing, graphic design, digital marketing or other services. Success often depends on finding customers, delivering reliable work and building a credible professional reputation.
Tutoring provides another possible income stream for students with strong academic knowledge. They can offer support in subjects they understand well, subject to demand and their available time. Campus businesses can also test commercial ideas through products or services aimed at fellow students.
Turning these activities into sustainable earnings requires planning beyond technical ability. Young entrepreneurs need to identify potential customers, set appropriate prices and understand their operating costs. Managing time and maintaining consistent service quality can also determine whether an activity remains viable.
The bank describes the training as a zero cost opportunity for young people seeking practical guidance. Its central message is that income generating activities can begin before graduation or formal employment. Participants will need to apply the lessons carefully, considering their skills, resources and the demand for their services.
Interested participants can register through the bank’s online RSVP link ahead of the session. The training offers an opportunity to explore practical ways of earning from existing abilities. Registration is available at https://tinyurl.com/3ccwk36c.
