James Mworia, Centum Investment Company’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) has today taken an oath of office as the new chancellor of Machakos University for a five-year term following his appointment by president Uhuru Kenyatta in April this year.
In exercise of the powers conferred by section 38 (1) (a) of the Universities Act, I Uhuru Kenyatta president and Commander-in-Chief of the Kenya Defense Forces appoint James Mworia to be the Chancellor of Machakos University for a period of five years,” President Uhuru Kenyatta said through a Gazette notice.
Machakos University was founded in 1957 as a Technical Rural Training School by the then colonial Government. It was converted into Machakos Technical and Trade School in 1958, Machakos Technical School in 1967, Machakos University College in 2013, and chartered to Machakos University in October 2016 by president Kenyatta.
James has led Centum Investment Company since 2008, the largest listed investment company in East and Central Africa, with approximately $1.8 billion USD in direct and third party assets under management. He is an advocate of the High Court of Kenya, a chartered financial analyst charter holder, a chartered global management accountant, a fellow of the Kenyan Institute of Management, and a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya. He is also a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader.
