A Kakamega business man has offered to buy and distribute revision papers to students from struggling families.
Mr Bernard Bokanda, a business man from Lugari says that it is important for the community to intervene and help students from poor families access learning material as stipulated in the education curriculum.
The exercise kicked on Saturday in Lumakanda ward where atleast 750 students were given revision papers and hardcopies of excerpts capturing specific topics recommended by the Ministry of Education.
According to Mulama, the first phase of distribution targets secondary school students with KCSE candidates with key focus on KCSE candidates.
“When the government announced that the earliest our children can get back to school is September l decided that its now upon parents and leaders in the community to find ways of helping them. This distribution of revision papers targets form one to form four students,” Bokanda said.
He noted that students in rural Kenya have become vulnerable to sex predators as they walk around trading centres in search of learning material.
“We have to find a way of keeping them at home by providing them with what they want because they are now in danger,“
Incidences of teen pregnancies have risen in the county, with a recent case of a class six pupil impregnating a class four pupil.
The business man cum politician says that he has also organised for guiding and counselling sessions for students in the adolescent stages.
