Absa Bank Kenya Plc announced that marathon champion Eliud Kipchoge will act as its Official World Tour Financial Partner.
The announcement came two days after Kipchoge won the Melbourne Marathon in a record time of 2 hours 9 minutes 10 seconds, his first marathon victory since 2023.
The financial terms of the partnership were not disclosed.
The collaboration will feature customer experiences, leadership conversations, digital storytelling, wellness initiatives and community programmes across Absa’s African footprint.
Absa said these activities aim to deepen connections with individuals, entrepreneurs and businesses throughout its Pan-African network.
Yusuf Omari, managing director and chief executive officer of Absa Bank Kenya, stated that Kipchoge’s achievements “extend beyond sport. He embodies possibility beyond limits. He is proof of what is possible when talent, discipline and purpose come together.”
Marketing and corporate affairs director Mwihaki Wachira added that the bank believes people have stories worth investing in and can achieve extraordinary things with the right support.
Kipchoge, 41, who holds two Olympic marathon gold medals and multiple World Marathon Major titles, described himself as a long-time Absa customer and said the partnership will support his goal of completing marathons on all seven continents and promoting running worldwide.
He also remarked, “Success is never achieved alone.”
Absa operates in Kenya as part of Absa Group Ltd., a financial services group active in 12 African countries offering retail, business, corporate, investment banking and wealth management.
The deal adds to Absa’s strategy of using partnerships and storytelling to strengthen customer relationships, though the bank did not reveal the agreement’s duration, cost or specific commercial targets.
