The big day is finally here with us as the Senate is set to vote on the new proposed revenue sharing formula.
The bid is sponsored by senate majority whip Irungu Kang’ata. The proposal has been at the center of major discussions around the country with many left unimpressed with the proposal.
The proposal targets to share the national revenue based on the latest population statistics with counties that have a large population set to benefit more compared to the old formula where resources were shared based on the geographical size of the county.
Senators from the Tangatanga affiliate group have ganged up with a number of their NASA counterparts in a bid to bring down the formula. Parallel formulas have since been lined up just in case the proposed one fails in today’s voting in the afternoon.
Senators Sakaja, Ole Kina and Malala have all prepared new formulas that could be discussed today during the special seating.
The three young Senators have been very vocal against the proposed formula. According to Malala, the country faced one of the biggest decisions ever and he was going to make sure his name is recorded on the right side of the history books.
According to a publication by a local daily the three senators alongside other four have been forced to switch off their phones from Monday in order to avoid systematic whipping from their respective party leaders.
Malala, Sakaja, and Ole Kina are joined by Anuar Loitiptip, Sam Ongeri, Philip Mpayei, and Mutula Jnr in switching off the phones according to the Star newspaper.
